"Carol Leone, a piano professor at SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts, brought similar suavity to Mozart’s D minor Piano Concerto (K. 466).
As would have been the case with the pianos of Mozart’s day, Leone was less a soloist than a partner with the orchestra, supplying luminous tone and nimble fingerwork. On her own, in the cadenzas, she took us into another, quite magical world, as if making up the music as she went—exactly how a cadenza should sound.
Phillips and the orchestra supplied stylish collaboration, string vibrato applied strategically, not nonstop, brasses carefully kept from dominating. As in the Weber, the sheer drama of the first movement was deftly underlined."
